Basic Sewing Machines

Here you will find where I talk about basic sewing machines for beginners. I wrote it a few years ago but the information is still valid and beneficial for someone who is just starting to sew. You don't need all those fancy bells and whistles that come along with some of the machines available today, just a machine that you can learn to sew on. 75% of sewing is figuring out how your machine works and being able to keep it threaded with wound bobbins ready to go when you need them.

I'm so excited about this new sewing machine blog because I know how nice it is to be able to ask a sewing question to someone who has all the knowledge you need to find out what you want to know. My mother was a seamstress as was her mother, which makes me a third generation seamstress.  I really enjoyed the time I spent with the 2 of them when I was learning to sew.  I'm looking forward to helping you discover the potential inside yourself.

Until next time,
Mary

Sewing Machine Information

It was recently brought to my attention that many people need help when deciding on what sewing machine to purchase. I have been a seamstress for many years and realize how difficult of a decision it is when you are just getting started or upgrading to a new machine. I'm here to help!

Please, please feel free to ask me a question, any questions you may have about your sewing machines or how to complete a project with it.

I see that many new sewer's would like to buy attachments for their machine but aren't exactly sure which one would work on their machine. It's not a one-size-fits-all kind of thing we are talking about here.  The type of shank you have( where the foot attaches to the machine) determines what kind of different feet you can use. Making sure the one you are going to buy will fit is key to picking the right ones for your machine.

So these are the topics I will be discussing as I move forward with this new sewing blog.  If you have a topic you would like to see here, please use the comments to suggest it.  I am looking forward to hearing from all of you.

PS.--I made custom window treatments for the last 20+ years so if you are needing help with a project you are working on, just ask me, I'll be glad to help you out with it.

Until next time!
Mary
